Life Between Lives Regression Reflections by Barbara, a client who shared her thoughts with me shortly after her regression. Barbara is a lawyer who lives in Eastern USA. We conducted the regression over zoom. Soon after, she sent me her insightful reflections with some follow up questions. Barbara gave me permission to share her thoughts with you and I have also posted my responses to her questions.
Barbara: Life between lives regression reflections
Thank you for your emails and the notes. Yesterday, I had to return to work promptly after the session. Last night, I did have some time to reflect on my experience.
Many thanks for the impressive 3 hours and 45 minutes of yesterday’s session. Since last night, I continue to reflect on the past life, images, people, events, and possible meaning behind them. Other thoughts are:
- I was surprised how time passed so quickly. I guess that the hypnosis was about three hours, but I felt like it was about an hour.
- I have never had an experience like this where I am awake, but my body is somewhat distant, particularly obvious when you brought me back.
- I felt I was doing nothing apart from answering your questions and conversing with you.
- When you asked me to move my body and remove the eye mask, I felt that I had been away somehow.
My further reflections are:
- My unconscious mind was active as many of the deeply concerned or unresolved issues in my life surfaced.
- I am happy I got many answers from this experience, but somehow, I think I already knew some answers.
Karen Responds:
Knowing the answers is good news and quite common. Previously, when you are not fully aware of your intuitive guidance, you sense the truth but not fully believe it. In other words, you have doubts blocking trust in what you receive. I suspect in doing the regression, you were looking for confirmation. Now, you have it. From now on, you can relax and trust what you immediately receive when you ask a question. Wise knowledge is always available to you. Consequently, you just need to learn to trust.
Barbara:
In addition, I thought about my guide’s name, Joy, which like your name. I feel that the name is familiar. Similarly, I realised joy is something that I need to add to my life; thus, perhaps there is a meaning behind it. Yesterday, I suddenly remembered that you may have the word “joy” in your name. I looked at your email and noticed that it is your last name.
Karen:
In fact, Joy is my second name. “Karen Joy” is the name my parents gave me at birth. As a psychologist, I used Karen Nixon, my maiden name. However, when I set up my Life Between Lives Regression business, I decided to use my first two names, Karen Joy. This name (derived from Katherine) means “pure joy. Creating a joyful state of mind is often one of our purposes in life.
Barbara:
During the regression, I noticed my guide, Joy, has bright, yellowish, short, curly hair. There, she gave me love that I have never experienced before. In fact, that love was unconditional and genuine and embraced all my needs. For example:
I felt that:
- all my suffering had been seen,
- all my wounds had been healed,
- all my shortcomings had been accepted, and
- all my needs had been satisfied.
I find it difficult to put these feelings into words, because no one has ever loved me like this in my current life on earth. Subsequently, I am touched, grateful and feel safe.
Karen:
I am so glad you had this experience of unconditional love. Many, during their regression, connect to this sense of being embraced with expansive indescribable love.
Barbara:
During the trance, I experienced a death and returned to the spirit world. Now, I wonder whether my knowledge of Dr Newton’s book and research has any impact on that. A year ago, I read his first book but I do not remember the details of Dr Newton’s clients’ descriptions of the spirit world. However, I cannot be sure whether my descriptions are accurate. At the same time, I learned yesterday that I should trust my guide, who has always taken care of me.
Karen:
After visiting the spirit world, you wonder if your descriptions are accurate. In truth, a solid material objective spirit world does not exist. What you experience on the other side is always subjective and related to your personal experience. The spirit world is not like Earth which we experience as solid and unchanging. Instead, the afterlife is variable, and what you perceive is informed by all your individual past experiences and insights. Still, in that way, there is a deep truth in what you receive.
Also, Michael Newton gathered information from many regressions and found his clients did have some common experiences of the other side. He called them “places’, as I and others do when speaking of this work. A more accurate description would be experiences or adventures. For example, clients may find they are being healed or be surrounded by passed loved ones. Space and time are dimensions of Earth, not the other side. In the trance, we often carry the idea of “place” with us and may report any healing as a “place of healing” or visiting loved ones as the “place where our soul group gathers.” Our descriptions of these places will have personal meaning for us as well, reflecting personal past experiences and knowledge.
In fact, you cannot possibly be inaccurate in what you receive or describe. Your experience in the afterlife is unique and designed by you, and for you. By “you,” I mean by your intentions, your higher self, your spiritual guides and high-level beings who watch over you.
Barbara:
In my last past life, I was a young man in1919 and moved in 1937 to Hong Kong with my wife and two small children. At this time, I was about 37 years old and died about 15 years later. I know this because I was still in Hong Kong and my children were around 20 years old when I passed. So, the year of death is around 1952.
Dr Newton reports that time has no meaning in the spirit world. Nevertheless, it seems coming back to earth for another life only after 16 years is fairly quick.cIt seems short, regarding my knowledge of Dr Newton’s research suggesting that many souls need to rejuvenate and recover. I would like your thoughts on this point.
Karen
Michael’s purpose was writing books that open people up to the reality of an afterlife. While doing thousands of regressions, he focussed on consistent experiences. Consequently, he reports what usually happened. Translating esoteric experiences for human understanding is not easy. He uses words and concepts that humans can relate to.
Now, it is around forty years since Michael regressed the clients in his books. Since then, the earth energies and human understanding has expanded.
I personally only had 8 years between my last life and my current life even though my previous life was extremely challenging as a German soldier in both WWI and WWII as well as witnessing the rape of Nanking by the Japanese in 1937.
A few years ago, I regressed a client who had 200 years in the afterlife between his previous life (born 1710) and his current life (born 1987). He was a clockmaker in his past life, skilled in finely tuned mechanics. No doubt, his experience as a clockmaker helped him adjust to modern technology. He works in IT. In fact, his guides congratulate him on managing so well with the long period between his lives.
In earlier times, time between one life and another could be as long as 400 years. Back then, progress on Earth was slow. Now our lives change rapidly. Even during just one life, we can struggle to keep up with all the changes, technological, population, infrastructure and now climate change challenges. Also, in the 20th century, we had many opportunities to return to Earth quickly because the population is growing so fast.
Because Michael regressed so many people, you gain a solid initial understanding of our life between lives. Now, we are adding to that useful bank of information. I with three others wrote two books for the Michael Newton Institute. Those books are Llewellyn’s Little Book of Life Between Lives and Wisdom of Souls.
In my latest book, Lost Soul, Wise Soul, I explain how the Earth system works as we build wisdom during our journey on Earth. It includes the steps we need to take to advance, why we have challenging lives, how we resolve the baggage we carry from one life to another and how we celebrate our successes and navigate the pitfalls.
Barbara:
Also, I researched the timing and duration of the Chinese Civil War fought between the Republic of China and the forces of the Chinese Communist Party. I found that the conflict continued intermittently from 1 August 1927 until 7 December 1949, which confirms my report that the war happened around 1937.
I think the reason for me to check this was that I had read some criticism from the psychology community about the reliability of the recalled memories under hypnosis, and some think that the memories were made up by the person under hypnosis. Although, I know about that historical event; I am not sure about the exact period of that event.
Karen:
Researchers of repressed memories of sexual abuse report that false memories are rare. I believe the same is true of repressed memories of past lives. The research of Dr Ian Stevenson into two thousand cases of children remembering past lives confirms this.
Just the same, you do feel reassured when finding positive evidence of our past lives. When I witnessed the rape of Nanking, I knew I’d been a German soldier in both wars. At the time, being in China in 1937 didn’t make any sense to me. However, I later learnt that German soldiers were in China training Chinese National soldiers from 1926 until early 1938. Between the world wars, I was a trainer of soldiers in Dresden. I report other evidence in a chapter of my first book, Other Lives, Other Realms, called Proof.
Barbara:
In summary, Karen, thank you again for guiding me through this journey, which is profoundly unique and rewarding. Overall, my learning is the following:
- I will focus on the learning outcomes, which are my goals, rather than the efforts I made to reach those goals;
- I will trust that my guide is with me always and that I can communicate with her often;
- I will intervene less about life events that give me negative emotions and tell myself that other people have their own journeys and battles;
- I will love myself more;
- I will not surrender to my fears as my guide is there to protect and guide me through whatever is coming; and
- I will be fine and have fun.
Karen:
Thank you, Barbara, for giving me permission to share your reflections.
What we receive during our regression is unique and personal. That is the power of undertaking regressions. You never know what you will receive, and yet, you can be assured that it will be what you need. That is, what is best for your highest good, and the highest good of all.

Dear KAren, I am fascinated at the idea that you could conduct a session by ZOOM. Especially as a Zoom is only 45 minutes and you have to start another session. How can you do that except by waking the client up?
As travel is difficult for me as well as too expensive, but I would LOVE to have a regression with you. I have heard my guide several times, saving my life. Your lady’s description of the total love like no other experienced in this present life is so exact to what I felt when I first heard my male voice. I was embarassed that the love that my guide shared was stronger than what I experenced by my charming husband. There was no comparison and I yearned to hear him again. I have often heard my deceased husband’s voice and I know they are both supporting me. I hope you are feeling better.
Dear Leonie. I would be very happy to do a regression with you if you decide to do one. Zoom free accounts are limited to 45 Minutes. My paid account is not limited thank goodness or, as you noted, that would be a problem. People can go to the bathroom during the regression no problem. Once you are the trance it continues unless disturbed. A full bladder can get your attention, and that is why bodily discomfort needs to be attended to so we can continue with the regression. Apart from technological issues that occasionally occur, the Zoom sessions are are as successful as in person ones. Here is what one client wrote. TestimonialThere is no reason for you to be embarrassed about the love you experienced on earth. Who can compete with eternal divine love? Everything is a bit muddier on the planet. That is just the way it is.
Hi Karen, I am new to your website and have recently had a life between lives regression, I started out with two past life regressions and found myself struggling to connect to them and becoming disinterested and somewhat bored after awhile. When it came time to go to the afterlife I didnt receive anything neither from my guides nor the Council of Elders. I didn’t even receive the feeling of love that so many speak of. There was nothingness. Is it that everyone’s experience of life will be different as Jane Roberts outlined in”The Nature of Personal REeality”? I am not aware that I expect nothingness as I believe in angels, guides, etc. so this is confusing. Do you have any thoughts about this? Thanks
Hedy, Nothingness or “the Void,” as some people call it, is, I believe, a place of rest. Some spirits feel hurt, angry or damaged from challenging lives and don’t go Home after death. Nothingness has a quality they seek, safety. Away from everyone and everything, they feel safe. I have cases like this in my book, Lost Soul, Wise Soul: How Challenging Past Lives Shape Our Future. I can’t remember ever having anyone bored by visiting their past lives. I do use techniques to coax my clients out of the Void when that is where they go. They usually need a lot of reassurance. We often carry fears and past actions we are not aware of that can block us moving forward. Courage and trust in yourself and your practitioner, while being willing to face any fear, grief or disappointment, can help begin the process of releasing whatever is holding you back. That has been my experience both as a client and as a practitioner.
Thanks Karen. This has been very helpful. Your book sounds as if it could be helpful also, definitely something I will check into. Thanks again.
You are welcome Hedy. I hope it helps.
