Is There Life After Death?

“Is there life after death?” is a question that we will all ask sometime during our lifetime. As we approach old age, this question becomes more important to us. On the one hand, some people feel certain life goes on after death. On the other, many assume death is the end. Then, others say they just don’t know.

Generally, evidence supporting life after death comes from research into strange situations people have experienced. First, some pilots declare seeing UFOs. Second, some insist they have had a Near Death Experience (NDE). Third, other people insist they’ve experienced a phenomenon called After Death Communication (ADC).

In fact, much evidence of life after death exists. You just need to look for it with an open mind.

After Death Communication

Judy and Bill Guggenheim, the authors of the book, Hello from Heaven, spent seven years researching this question: “Is there life after death?” To answer it, they gathered evidence of after-death communication (ADC). To clarify, an ADC occurs when an individual experiences spontaneous communication from a deceased friend or relative.

However, people discover that contact can be received in a variety of ways. First, some sense the loved one’s presence. Second, a few hear their voice. Third, others feel their touch or experience a meaningful sign. Finally, a few smell an aroma that they associate with their late friend or relative.

Often, People notice that contact comes while they are involved in mundane activities. For example, they might be simply doing the dishes or driving. Also, many are half-awake or day-dreaming. Occasionally, an individual experiences the contact as some sort of warning but most people feel delight and peace. In this situation, they believe their loved one is still around and okay.

To understand its power, watch an interview on ABCs 20/20 with Bill and Judy Guggenheim below:

Is there life after death?

The After Death Communication Research Foundation (ADCRF) continues to gather people’s stories of their ADCs. Read recent accounts of ADCs by clicking here.

How many people experience an ADC? Bill Guggenheim estimates 20% of the American population. Earlier surveys  also found a significant percentage of people  have ADCs.

Percentage of people who report experiencing an ADC

  • In 1958, 50% of English widows sampled.
  • In 1971, 47% of Welsh widows sampled.
  • In 1975, 27% of Americans sampled.
  • In 1976, 31% of Icelanders sampled.
  • In 1977, 50% of Canadians sampled.

Near Death Experiences

Dr Jeffrey Long, Jody Long and Paul Perry have researched 1,300 Near Death Experiences (NDEs). First, they were amazed at the consistency in these stories from people all over the world. To their surprise, when they interviewed these people, few knew about the concept of Near Death Experiences before they experienced their life-threatening situation.

Importantly, Dr Long claims that medical science fails to explain the consistency of these reports. Obviously, he believes there is only plausible answer to Near Death Experiences. That is, people survive death and go on to experience other dimensions.

Dr Long and his colleagues have written a book that is based on their research called, Evidence of the Afterlife.

Dr Bettina Peyton,  a doctor and atheist at the time, experienced a NDE. Here is a link to a published verification of her NDE and here is Dr Peyton speaking about her NDE and its affect on her life.

Conclusion

When people experience a NDE or an ADC, nearly all are convinced that humans survive death. Generally, they feel reassured and at peace. Then, they make an effort to live their lives meaningfully, becoming more loving and helpful.

Ultimately, we need to discover the truth for ourselves. By listening to the stories of people who have had NDEs and ADCs, we can open our eyes to the possibility of life after death. However, a personal experience is most powerful.

Great 20/20 story and personal account, Karen—your article ties them nicely together. Bettina’s experience happened around 40 years ago, yet her description is clear and evocative.

Hello and thank you for this article. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on Shared Death Experiences, which I believe can be shared by two or more people?

Thanks for your support Michelle. I hadn’t heard of this term, “shared death experiences” but I checked what it meant and I do have some knowledge of the phenomena which I will write about in a later post. Thanks for the idea.
